We just moved to Kansas, my husband got transfered here. I don't know any body except the 2 girls I work with at the court house. My husband is out of town. We have already had 2 tornados touch down with in 10 miles of use. I am alone in a mobile home with no basement or garage. The sirens have gone off twice since I got home. What do I do? I already called the 2 motel/hotels in town they are full. I am stuck in this trailer with my 6 month old son. What can I do if another one gets close to us. We are under a Tornado watch for another 2 hours. Someone please help.
Tornados.net Recommends:
My brother in law is here, he lived on the Oklahoma-Kansas border for 2 years. He said to call the police dept, fire dept, or your local hospital. To find a safe place to go. If you can not get to one. He says to get the thickest blankets, comforters etc.. that you have. If the sirens go off again. Go to your bathroom. Climb into the tub and pull the covers over you and your baby. It is not the safest place to be. But if you can not get any where else it is the safest place in your trailer. We will be praying for you.

Go to the police station or call them and ask where you can go.

I am not sure, but you should call your government number and ask them what to do. They may have a good place for you to go. Hope it all works out fine for you.

First, stay calm. You need to have your wits about you if God forbid something should come your way.
Can you get out of the house and into your vehicle and drive to the local shelter/gym? If you are uncomfortable, head into town.

ya definitely call the cops, and make sure you emphasize that you have a 6 month old baby.

why the hell would anyone want to move there? Obviously the money's not great...I mean if you really live in a trailer.

Get off Yahoo Answers and head for a public building, whether it be a shopping mall, grocery store, or police station, for the love of God lady.............GO!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as it is a watch not a warning don't get too alarmed. Call the police dept and ask if there is a shelter nearby. If you get stuck there get in the bath tub. God Bless you and your precious baby.

Call the nonemergancy number of the police in your area and see if there is a community shelter nearby, like a firestation. Explain you are new here and don't know what to do.

Seek shelter, All i can suggest is to count on the kindness of strangers, go to a house you know has a basement and ask if you can take shelter. But that has its own dangers, the other thing i would do is call the police station at their NON-emergency number and ask where the nearest storm shelter is.
Stay safe.

There should be a special designated area that you can go to in town that is protected more securely than your mobile home. Since you are new there and it is late right now can you contact either of the two girls that you work with. They should know where it is. Don't worry about the time thing. They should be very understanding since you are worried about you and the welfare of your 6 month old son. Good luck to you.

First, don't panic, I know this must be very disturbing but do try to stay calm.
If more tornados are immienent please go to a sturdy public building or shelter. The Fire Department may be able to advise you on a place in your area.
After this frightening incident is over, you will probably want to make a plan for future tornado watches so that you know safe place in advance.
Say a prayer, be safe.

Check your phone book for emergency shelters or call the local police or fire department and ask them where you should go before a tornado/hurricane occurs.
(personally, I would go to the hospital ... take along the things you need for the baby and a change of clothes for yourself.)

get blankets, candels, and a little supply of baby food. eather go in a secure closet or in the bath tub keep a radio by u to listen to the news if u have a phone try and get a hold of ur husband cause talking to him really will sooth u and help u get calm if u know of a cellar around go there and make sure u have enough essentials for the baby

What city are you in?
savage_14u2000 on Tornados.net - 2006-10-26 20:53:11
digging hole with a cave is probably not feasable but a safe place is freeway bridges. You know up top underneath where it gets tight cover? If you can get to one in a hurry youll be ok there or any similar structure like a drainpipe.goodluck to you and keep your wits about you look for shielding from the debree and anchorage to the ground.as a last resort unzip a matress and stuff it with even more pillows on both sides because if you get caught youll be thrown violently and such a cacoon could save you both.its not the throw as much as the flying debree and landing.Be strong.chance favors a prepared mind
